Home Brewers start your burners - Sunday, September 13, 2009

Greetings brothers of the Bine.

Next years style for the Dailey Cup is 9 E Strong Scotch Ale in honor of OTR chair Jim Forsythe's Scottish Irish heritage.  This is a style that should challenge most home brewers.

I would encourage all home brewers to start  perfecting their recipes now in hopes of unseating Bill Prewitt as the reigning champ. Bill has won First place in the last three
competitions.

Home Brewers start your burners Gene.

Time to Start Packing - Saturday, August 22, 2009

Celebrating 60 Years of OTRWe are reaching another major milestone in our organizations history.  This year will be the OTR 60th reunion!  That’s 420 years in dog years.  When OTR was formed Harry S. Truman was president; Guam becomes a commonwealth of the United States; the Korean War begins; the comic strip Peanuts by Charles M. Shultz is first published in newspapers; Truth or Consequences debuts on television; the F.C.C. issues the first license to broadcast television in color; Felix Robinson recovers from a prolonged illness and a group of 45 cavers got together at the Worden Hotel in Davis, WV to celebrate his recovery and explore some caves.  That was our humble beginning.

No more Lions Club Pork or Chicken Dinners at OTR - Wednesday, August 12, 2009
WHAT! No more Lions Club Chicken Dinners!

Yep you're reading it correctly!

I was surprised to learn from OTR Chairman Jim Forsythe that he was recently informed by the Tygart Valley Lions Club that they would not be returning to OTR in 2009.

When Jim asked the club the reason for their decision Rich Depp, the TVLC President stated "the lack of Lions Club volunteers and the rising cost of the food" as the reason they are not returning.

Rich thanked OTR for their years of supporting the TVLC dinners and thanks TRA for allowing the TVLC to use our site each year for their Big Buck Giveaway fundraiser. Rich stated "They have no immediate plans for a return of the chicken dinners"

Chairman Jim informed me that he also thanked the TVLC for their years of great service and invited them back in the future.

When I spoke to Rich he stated to me that "that it has been more and more difficult to get people to volunteer during the Labor Day weekend". He also told me that "They wish to continue to use the site for their fund raiser”

Now the good news!

Seeing the need for a special dinner(s) during the event chairman Jim contacted Greg Miller of Miller To-Your-Health Food Service, the official food vendor of OTR for the past few years and explained the TVLC situation to Greg.

Greg agreed to save the day and to do a couple of special dinners to take the place of the lions club and with the quality Greg has been providing us the past few years I am sure he will provide us some excellent special meals.
